Islington House Renovation
In a high-specification Islington renovation, heating and cooling were chosen so that nothing would detract from the interior design.

- Project
- Whole-house renovation
- Energy source
- Three Daikin air source heat pumps
- Air handlers
- Two 14 kW and one 10 kW
- Outlets
- 25 mm linear wall grilles
The challenge
The house features a helical staircase, hardwood floors, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glazing, with a family room, gym, study and cinema on the lower ground floor and bedroom suites above. Wall radiators and ceiling cassettes would have spoiled that level of detail, so a more integrated answer was needed.
The solution
Linear grille outlets just 25 mm wide sit high on the walls and deliver heated or cooled air into each room. Three heat pumps in the front courtyard serve three air handlers in the basement and on the first floor. Sound-attenuating flexible ducting, under 150 mm in diameter, is threaded behind walls and above ceilings, and the system works alongside underfloor heating.
The result
Temperatures are even across each space with no hot or cold spots, operation is almost silent and occupants can set their own preferences room by room. The project shows that imaginative interior design need not be compromised by building services.
